Central Birmingham City Learning Centre is a state-of-the-art technology centre set up for the benefit of central Birmingham schools.
Most of the services and sessions we provide to our network schools are free or incur only a nominal charge for consumables. Our key work is with pupils and staff. We offer sessions on most curriculum areas and to most Key Stages. We also offer a varied CPD programme that all of our network schools can tap into.
CLCs were set up to be innovative practitioners of ICT and therefore most of what we provide has an ICT focus. That said, we are not an ICT suite. All our sessions use ICT to enhance learning, be that in a History or Science session.
Sessions are typically delivered by CLC staff although teachers are expected to fully support the teaching and to maintain adequate discipline of their class. This is impossible without a close collaboration with class teachers and schools. If you have a topic you'd like us to help deliver then let us know.
We have a number of “standard” sessions across the Key Stages and subject areas and these can be booked by contacting us directly. Typically, teachers ask us to deliver sessions using ICT to bring “dry” topics to life.
With the wide range of technology we have (a full PC and mac suite, t-shirt design and printing, Lego robots and much more) we are also booked regularly for pupils to access high-end hardware.
We are a small but dedicated team and welcome calls from all who are involved in education who may wish to take advantage of the facilities we have here.
